Director, Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research/Chair, Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine | Los Angeles, California We are pleased to announce the completion of our search for the Chair of the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and the Director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine. From a strong pool of candidates, Dr. Charles ‘Chuck’ Murry has been selected to fill this important position.Most recently, Dr. Murry has served as the co-founder and Director of the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he is completing 28 years on the faculty there. Dr. Murry is a pathologist and stem cell researcher specializing in heart disease. In his research, he uncovers the molecular mechanisms behind heart attack, and harnesses stem cells and tissue engineering with the goal of regenerating the human heart and reversing heart failure. His experience in translating scientific results into therapeutic technologies includes his role as a senior vice president at Sana Biotechnology between 2019 and 2022. Dr. Murry is a fellow of both the American Academy for the Advancement of Science and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. The American Heart Association has recognized Dr. Murry with its Golden Heart Award. He is a member of the Association of American Physicians and serves on the International Society for Stem Cell Research’s board of directors.
