Dean, School of Nursing and Health Studies University of Miami | Coral Gables, Florida We are pleased to announce that the University of Miami has named Hudson Santos as Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Studies. His appointment is effective on June 1, 2024.Dr. Santos most recently served as Vice Dean of Research Affairs at the University of Miami (UM) School of Nursing and Health Studies. He joined the UM faculty in May 2022 as a tenured Professor and the inaugural Dolores J. Chambreau Endowed Chair. Since then, he has demonstrated his commitment to effective leadership, serving as Acting Director of the PhD in Nursing Science Program and Interim Associate Dean of the Graduate School in addition to his roles as Professor and Vice Dean.Dr. Santos specializes in social determinants of health and has authored more than 110 scientific publications. He has secured upwards of $47M in research funding as a principal investigator or co-investigator. His recent achievements include leading the largest research grant ever awarded to the Coral Gables Campus—a $23.57M, 7-year NIH grant funding the Miami Cohort of the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. Before his tenure at the University of Miami, Dr. Santos completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Duke University, then earned tenure as an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, where he was the Beerstecher-Blackwell Distinguished Term Scholar, director of the Biobehavioral Laboratory, and founder and director of the Health Resilience and Omics Science (HEROS) Hub for identifying genetic risk factors affecting the neurodevelopment of children.
