Director, Iowa Reading Research Center University of Iowa, College of Education | Iowa City, Iowa We are pleased to announce that the University of Iowa College of Education and the Iowa Department of Education have selected Shawn Datchuck as the next director of the Iowa Reading Research Center, effective July 1, 2024. He will lead the Center in its mission to apply current research on literacy and the Science of Reading to support instructional strategies and evidence-based interventions to achieve literacy proficiency for all Iowa students. Datchuk currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa College of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning. His focus has been on identifying and supporting students with reading, reading comprehension and writing difficulties and related difficulties. Prior to his work at the University of Iowa, Shawn previously worked at the University of Vermont as an assistant professor, the University of Pittsburgh as adjunct faculty, and within the K-12 sector as a former special education teacher, elementary teacher, special education director, and academic performance director.
