Executive Director Silent Spring Institute | Newton, Massachusetts We are pleased to announce that Silent Spring Institute has named Mary Beth Terry as the Executive Director. Her appointment is effective on July 1, 2024.Dr. Terry currently serves as a Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Associate Director of Population Science at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her many contributions to the field include her groundbreaking work on exposure to air pollution and increased breast cancer risk among women with a family history or genetic susceptibility.Dr. Terry has over 20 years of leading studies of cancer etiology specifically focused on the role of genetics, epigenetics, and other biomarkers play in modifying the effects of environmental exposures. She currently leads NIH grants funded through the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences that focus on following cancer risk within family-based cohorts focused on studying environmental exposures during key windows of breast cancer susceptibility. Dr. Terry has authored or co-authored over 300 scientific publications.Dr. Terry holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Columbia University and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Washington.
