Senior Vice President, Office of Philanthropy City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and Medical Center | Duarte, California City of Hope (COH)—a leading National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center—appointed Suzanne Klein as Senior Vice President (SVP), Philanthropy, effective July 15, 2024. As SVP, Klein reports directly to Chief Philanthropy Officer Kristin Bertell as a strategic thought partner and key member of her leadership team. She is accountable for oversight and tracking of national functions related to individual giving, including principal, major, and planned giving, as well as foundation relations and contributions through COH’s regional sites. This includes new markets in Chicago and Atlanta as a result of COH’s recent acquisition of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. The enterprise’s recent expansion has put a COH care facility within driving distance of 86 million people—more than a quarter of the U.S. population.A New Yorker, Suzanne most recently served as Vice President, Development and second-in-command of philanthropy at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital. She was a key driver of the institution’s successful $2 billion campaign, closed numerous impactful eight-figure gifts, and helped scale NYP’s development team from 90 to 120 during her tenure in this role as well as Interim Chief Development Officer. Before NYP, Suzanne was Executive Director of Development at Mount Sinai Health System. She brings more than 30 years of development experience from healthcare, higher education, and academic medical institutions, with deep expertise in cancer research fundraising. Suzanne was recognized as one of the top fundraisers in the country for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she previously held roles as Senior Philanthropic Advisor and Director of Major Gifts. She also worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in prospect development and major and planned giving.Suzanne received a bachelor’s of arts in economics with high honors from the University at Buffalo.
