Associate Dean for Research and Scientific Advancement

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) School of Nursing (SON) seeks an Associate Dean for Research and Scientific Advancement (ADRSA). Founded in 1891, UNCG is a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting, residential university. The University holds two classifications from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching: a “doctoral university with high research activity” and a university with deep “community engaged high research activity.” 

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. Debra Barksdale, the ADRSA will join UNCG during a time of transformation and innovation. In recent years, the SON moved into the new Nursing and Instructional Building (NIB), a $105 million, 180,000-square-foot facility. The SON’s research funding has increased 85% over the last five years and covers areas that include chronic illness, maternal and child health, health systems/nursing workforce, gerontology, cardiovascular health, asthma, and more, with a strong emphasis on health disparities research. 

The ADRSA will be the driving force behind the SON’s research mission, expanding its research portfolio, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and cultivating the next generation of researchers. The ADRSA will be a proven leader with a record of academic achievement suitable for a tenured appointment. They will bring a breadth of research experience and a successful record of securing external funding. They will be deeply committed to mentorship, collaboration, and addressing health inequities. A doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field is required.
