President and Chief Executive Officer UL Standards & Engagement | Washington, DC or Evanston, Illinois UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit standards development and advocacy organization that translates safety science into practical, action-oriented standards in multiple domains. The organization also serves as a vital resource for policymakers and shares knowledge, advances partnerships, and advocates for standards and policies to create a safer, more sustainable world. ULSE seeks a President & CEO to position the organization for the future. The President & CEO has the singular opportunity to inspire and lead an organization guided by its vision of becoming the leading standards development and safety advocacy organization focused on tangible results. For more than a century, the broader UL Enterprise has conducted rigorous product testing, inspection, and certification, independent research, and developed safety standards to improve living and working conditions throughout the world. With the pace of technological change accelerating, ULSE is working for a future in which safety is built into technology to help drive transformative change in pursuit of a more resilient society. The world thrives on innovation, but with every new product or service comes new risks or dangers associated with the technology. To ensure new products, systems, and services operate safely and effectively, ULSE updates and develops standards that address these risks while guiding the safety, performance, and sustainability of new and evolving technologies. ULSE recognizes that the future is increasingly electric, and with more electrification comes the potential for increased risk. For example, ULSE published updates to multiple standards related to electrical systems for personal E-mobility devices, which were adopted as legislation in New York City in 2023. This serves as a perfect illustration of how ULSE’s local, national, and international efforts can have an immediate impact on safety. The President & CEO will serve as a passionate and inspirational advocate for ULSE’s leadership in public safety by amplifying its reputation as the preeminent voice on emerging safety issues and trends, elevating the visibility of its safety standards, and creating initiatives to influence and advance its mission. In addition to being a spokesperson for ULSE, the President & CEO will be a respected convener, relationship-builder, and organizational leader. The President & CEO will develop strategies to build awareness of the organization among target audiences, which include all levels of policy, regulatory, and legislative environments, as well as key stakeholders involved in safety-related issues. The President & CEO will represent ULSE both internally and externally, engaging with a diverse range of constituents while ensuring the financial health, growth, and impact of the organization.
