Vice President for Information Systems and Technology/Chief Information Officer Massachusetts Institute of Technology | Cambridge, Massachusetts The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT; the Institute) seeks an experienced, collaborative, and strategic information technology professional to serve as the next Vice President for Information Systems and Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO). This role involves ensuring a rigorous approach to cybersecurity, integrating modern administrative systems into the overall enterprise systems landscape, collaborating broadly to drive digital transformation while fostering innovation, transparency, and accountability, and delivering excellence in customer service. The CIO will oversee community-focused IT services, manage resources sustainably, and collaborate on IT governance and procurement to meet the Institute's evolving needs. As a key leader, the CIO will co-chair the Information Technology Governance Committee and serve on the MGHPCC Board.Reporting to MIT’s Executive Vice President and Treasurer (EVPT), the CIO is a member of the EVPT senior leadership team and serves on the President’s Academic Council as the Institute’s senior information technology executive. Information Services and Technology (IS&T) provides technology services in support of MIT’s mission to advance knowledge and educate students, endeavoring to maximize the impact of information technology across the Institute’s research and education enterprise. The CIO is a strategic thinker responsible for leading and managing the overall IS&T organization and defining and evolving digital strategy in close collaboration with the Chief Officer for Business and Digital Transformation and the Associate Vice President for Research Computing and Data. The CIO works collaboratively with MIT’s five Schools and the College of Computing, departments, laboratories, centers and institutes (DLCIs), and administrative areas to advance business priorities through digital enablement. The CIO oversees an organization of 227 staff positions and an annual budget of $120 million.The successful candidate will be an imaginative information technology leader and an outstanding manager with an instinct for consultation and a talent for collaboration, bringing substantial IT leadership experience in a complex academic, research, or public sector environment. They will bring comprehensive technical knowledge and skills, deep knowledge of organizational development, digital transformation, project and program management, and fiscal management and planning. They will possess relevant leadership experience managing multiple cross-functional teams with progressive IT experience in a collaborative, decentralized, and service-oriented IT organization.
