Claremont McKenna College, Dean of Students

Claremont McKenna College selected Jimmy Doan to be the next Dean of Students. 

Doan is currently the Associate Dean and Senior Director of Wellbeing, Belonging, and Special Projects at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has served in progressive roles of responsibility since 2013. During his tenure at MIT, Jimmy founded the Office of Student Wellbeing and CARE Team, started and provided leadership for the Health Promotion Working Group, and partnered with faculty to develop and share data-driven practices to support student wellbeing and academic achievement. He also developed peer mentorship programs and coordinated initiatives to build students’ communication skills related to MIT’s Statement of Freedom of Expression. Known as a trusted thought-leader, Doan has managed strategic projects for the Division of Student Life in partnership with the Vice Chancellor and Dean for Student Life and Chief of Staff for Student Life. In 2020, he received the APIKC Outstanding Mid-Level Professional Award through NASPA.

Before his time at MIT, Doan worked at Bentley University where he advised the Campus Activities Board and coordinated a summer bridge program for first-generation, low-income incoming first-year students.

Doan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of the Holy Cross and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs administration from the University of Vermont.
