The University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside or UCR), one of ten campuses in the world-renowned University of California System, seeks a Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services (VCBAS). UC Riverside enrolls more than 21,000 students across five schools and colleges. The UCR School of Medicine will admit its first class in fall 2013, and a newly launched School of Public Policy will accept its first Masters students in fall 2014, bringing the number of schools and colleges to seven. Recognized for its academic impact, UC Riverside was ranked in 2012 by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 50 public universities in the nation. Twenty-seven UCR departments were evaluated in the 2010 National Research Council assessment of doctoral programs, with eight in the top 25 percent nationally and an additional six in the top third.
The Office of Business and Administrative Services manages a budget of $89 million and full-time staff of 600 over several departments. The portfolio of departments includes: Capital Programs; Financial Services; Human Resources; Facilities Management; Campus Police; and Material Management. This position represents an opportunity for a dynamic, innovative leader with significant business and administrative management experience to direct a complex, multi-unit organization that is essential to the growth and success of the University as it seeks to achieve a new tier of excellence as a pre-eminent public research university.
The Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services will be responsible for providing executive leadership for the business and administrative operations of UCR, overseeing campus compliance and ethics processes, and communicating the office s short- and long-term vision, strategy, and results to the campus. In this newly configured role, the Vice Chancellor is a direct report and key strategic advisor to the Chancellor and a member of the executive team that oversees the execution of UCR 2020, the campus strategic plan. In addition, the Vice Chancellor will serve as the official liaison to the University of California Office of the President, as well as to other universities, outside agencies, and the community in matters relating to all areas of the unit s responsibilities. In aiding the campus to achieve its goals, the VCBAS will: lead and promote a culture of responsiveness and collaboration; develop and implement a capital plan for growth and impact; develop and maintain transparent, effective systems; embrace the culture of inclusivity and commitment to diversity of UC Riverside; and engage with partners across the UC System to ensure efficiency and best practices on campus.
The VCBAS will be a seasoned business and administrative leader with a track record of success in complex environments and an affinity and talent for collaboration. He or she will bring enthusiasm and capacity both to the task of developing and leading a large, service-intensive operation and the opportunity to play a strategic role in the advancement of the University s goals. The successful candidate will combine keen and inventive administrative leadership with a deep and authentic attraction to UC Riverside, and a full appreciation that the fulfillment of its educational mission is its paramount obligation.
