Stony Brook University seeks an accomplished and entrepreneurial professional to serve as Senior Associate Vice President for University Advancement. This new position will oversee all individual and institutional development and will play an integral role as the University vastly expands its advancement function in the coming years.

Reporting to Vice President for University Advancement Dexter Bailey, and in close collaboration with President Stanley, and senior academic and administrative staff, the Senior Associate Vice President will oversee the comprehensive development function and help to shape the University's fundraising program during a transformational time of growth. This includes a broad cross-section of the development program from major and principal giving (regional- and unit-based) to corporate and foundation relations, and gift planning, as well as projected increases in both staff and budget. S/he will manage and mentor a staff of at least 20 development professionals and administrative support personnel, fostering a sense of team effort, as well as an environment of achievement.
The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of experience in development, preferably in higher education; proven leadership, management, and organizational skills, particularly while working within a large development organization; experience in designing and executing comprehensive fundraising processes and procedures; experience in a comprehensive campaign setting, including a strong track record of raising significant gifts from individuals and training other major gift officers to do the same; and the personal energy, enthusiasm, and drive to set and achieve ambitious goals. S/he will also have experience assessing the structure and composition of a development operation, efficiently allocating resources, and effectively developing staff.
